For the execution of two significant regional projects, an extensive geotechnical investigation was conducted in an area known as Punta Arenosa in the city of Punta Arenas.
The geotechnical study confirmed that the soil type consists primarily of potentially liquefiable sands. Additionally, Geotecnia Patagonia Ltda. conducted tests using a dynamic penetrometer called Grizzly (DPSH), whose main advantage over traditional equipment is its automated and computerized system, which calculates penetration per blow in real time and graphically displays tip resistance (or penetration resistance) with depth.
This work presents a correlation between the number of blows from the SPT and the Grizzly tests for the potentially liquefiable sands at the site, down to approximately 20 meters depth. Furthermore, the tip resistance associated with the liquefaction limit of these sands was determined.
