The Dynamic Plate Load Test is used for quality control of embankments and platforms, allowing rapid on-site determination of the dynamic deformation modulus in compacted layers of embankments and granular bases. It also enables broader sampling of compacted layers, since it is a very quick test to perform with immediate in situ results.

The settlement measurement device includes a sensor (accelerometer) and an electronic data acquisition and processing unit. The electronic unit uses the sensor signal to determine the settlement s of the plate when impacted by the drop weight. The device displays and records the maximum settlement of each impact and calculates the dynamic deformation modulus (Evd). From this, the Ev2 modulus (in MPa) can also be estimated, as well as correlations with the California Bearing Ratio (CBR, in %).

The operation of the lightweight dynamic plate is simple, reliable, and repeatable. An average of the three settlements measured for each impact under the 30 cm diameter plate allows the dynamic deformation modulus to be instantly calculated. The values are displayed directly on the control unit screen during each test.

Since this lightweight dynamic plate does not require a truck for loading, the test is extremely fast and can be carried out even in areas with difficult access.
